IPSHITA M GHOSH
Founder of aangan academy
Ipshita is an Odissi Dance guru and scholar, a certified yoga teacher, a holistic healer, a speaker, an author and a women's empowerment cheerleader.
Growing up in India, Ipshita’s love and dream was to dance and feel free. Even at a young age she felt it’s power for joy and transformation. For over fifteen years she trained rigorously with the eminent Padma Shree recipient, Guru Mayadhar Raut. Her style is the embodiment of Guru Raut’s lyrical and emotive choreography. Under his guidance she also earned a Bachelor of Performing Arts with a focus in Odissi. She performed widely in Delhi with his troupe and also held well reviewed solo recitals in Odissi. She participated in the 14th, 15th and 18th All India Young Dancers Festivals and given the title of Nritya Shivali by Shivali Cultural Society of India. She was also invited to perform in the 2nd Yuv Mahotsav organized by Delhi Sahitya Kala Parishad and by Delhi Doordarshan (TV).
Ipshita always desired for others to know the power of dance & movement. So it wasn’t a surprise that while she was receiving her double Masters in Mathematics and Computer Science she never lost sight of her dream to share dancing with others. But her journey first took her into working in software development in India and later, after marriage, into analytics on Wall Street in the USA.
Like many of us, her journey took another twist, right into motherhood and so she took a hiatus from Wall Street. In 2014, inspired by her own children growing up and her need for an outlet for her creativity she brought dance back into her life…….this time, front and center! She created Aangan Academy. A safe haven for people of all ages to feel the power of dance. A place where they can be transformed and reenergized as she was. Dance has been her number one tool for self-expression and self-growth. It motivates her to live her life so fully that she even received the 2016 Members Choice “Risk Taker” award from the National Chapter of Believe Inspire Grow (B.I.G.), an association that powerfully supports women in creating lives on their own terms.
A brief feature on the birth of Aangan can be found in this anthology of the stories of Women Entreprenuers, named Women Who Boss Up Post Pandemic: Successful Women Sharing Stories of How They Pivoted With Purpose During a Challenging Time

“Ipsita has a very personable dance personality, her bhangis and swivels are fluid and smooth and she is a natural for abhinaya”
Hindustan Times
“…an attractive stage presence, an innate grace of movement, and last but not the least, the capacity to summon up the required emotional energy without which the finest of technical prowess become lifeless and staid”
Evening News
“Ipsita’s grace, sense of rhythm and lyrically expressive gestures have distinguished her in the field of Odissi dance”
